What is ClearMeet for Microsoft Teams?
ClearMeet is an AI note taker and meeting assistant for Windows that works with Microsoft Teams without a bot. It listens to the sound Teams plays and your microphone, writes the transcript, notes and action items, and shows short answers when you're asked something. It works in any Teams meeting you're in. Free for 5 meetings a month.
How does ClearMeet work with Teams?
It doesn't connect to Teams at all. It hears the meeting the way you do, through your PC, so it works in the Teams app, in Teams on the web, and in one-to-one Teams calls.
- Join your Teams meeting or call as you always do.
- Press Start on the ClearMeet bar. The transcript fills in as people talk.
- When someone asks you something, click Answer latest for a few short lines to say.
- Press Stop at the end. The summary, action items and key moments are saved.
Sharing your screen in Teams? Hidden from most screen shares: on Windows 10 (version 2004) and later, most screen-sharing apps can't capture its window. It's on by default; switch it with "Hide when sharing my screen" in the tray menu or Settings.
Why no bot matters in Teams
A bot is one more participant for the organiser to admit, and one more app for IT to approve or block. Some workplaces now warn about note-taking bots that join meetings uninvited.
A university IT help page, for example, describes third-party AI assistant bots joining Teams and Webex meetings uninvited, and how to keep them out (UW-Madison). ClearMeet never appears in the meeting, so there's nothing to admit or remove. That doesn't change your workplace's rules: if your company limits AI note-taking tools, follow them.
ClearMeet or Copilot in Teams?
If your company already pays for Microsoft 365 Copilot, try it first: it's built in. ClearMeet fits when you don't have Copilot, or your meetings are with other companies.

What to know before you use it in Teams
ClearMeet needs the Teams sound to play through your Windows PC, and it writes down English only for now. And no bot doesn't mean no need to ask.
- Windows 10 (version 2004) or Windows 11, 64-bit. There is no Mac, phone or web version.
- ClearMeet writes down English speech only, for now.
- If you join the Teams meeting by phone on a separate device, ClearMeet can't hear it.
- Recording laws differ by place: tell people when you record or transcribe a call.
Questions
Can I take AI notes in a Teams meeting without a bot?
Yes. ClearMeet runs on your Windows PC and listens to the sound Teams plays and your microphone. Nothing joins the meeting, so there's no bot in the lobby or in the list of people.
Does it work in Teams meetings hosted by another company?
Yes. ClearMeet works on your own computer, so it doesn't matter whose Teams account the meeting is on. Microsoft says Copilot won't work in meetings hosted outside your own organisation.
Do I need Copilot or Teams Premium?
No. ClearMeet doesn't use your Microsoft licence. It works with the free Teams app, the work Teams app and Teams in the browser.
My company blocks meeting bots. Can I use ClearMeet?
Check with your company first. ClearMeet isn't a bot, but many workplaces have rules about AI note-taking tools of any kind, and you should follow them.
